Is CarCEO PRO really free?
Yes. The Starter plan is free forever for fleets up to 2 vehicles with unlimited customers and contracts. No credit card required to sign up, no trial timer, no automatic upgrade. You only pay if you want to upgrade: Office at $29/month (up to 10 vehicles), Ultimate at $129/month (unlimited), or Enterprise at $399/month.
What's the catch with free car rental software?
There is no catch on the Starter plan beyond the 2-vehicle limit. You get digital contracts, the fleet calendar, customer and vehicle records, WhatsApp delivery, cash deposits, multi-currency invoicing and basic reports — all free, forever, with unlimited customers and contracts. The features locked behind paid plans are: Stripe Connect card pre-authorization, automated fine pass-through, damage check-in with photos, maintenance scheduling, multi-branch and integrations.
Do I need to enter a credit card to use the free plan?
No. The Starter plan does not require any payment information to sign up. You enter your email, set a password, and start using the software. We never ask for a card unless you decide to upgrade to Ultimate.
How long does the free plan last?
Forever. The Starter plan is not a trial. There is no countdown timer that forces you to pay. As long as you have 2 or fewer vehicles, you can keep using it indefinitely.
What's the difference between free and freemium-trap software?
A real free tier (like CarCEO PRO Starter) gives you everything you need to actually run the business — digital contracts, fleet calendar, customers, WhatsApp delivery, multi-currency invoicing. A freemium-trap gives you a calendar but forces you to upgrade to print a contract, add a 6th customer, or use the system on a phone. Read the fine print of any 'free' rental software — if you can't sign a single rental agreement without paying, it's a freemium-trap.
Is there an open-source car rental software?
There are a few open-source projects but they require you to host and maintain the software yourself — a server, a database, security patches, backups. For most rental operators that's more expensive in time and risk than just using a hosted product. CarCEO PRO Starter is free, hosted, secured and updated automatically — without the maintenance burden.
Can I print legally valid rental contracts on the free plan?
Yes. The Starter plan generates the same signed PDF rental contracts as the paid plan — with the renter's photo ID, vehicle details, signature and your business letterhead. Legally valid wherever digital signatures are recognized.
Does the free plan work in my language and currency?
Yes. All 9 languages and all 14+ currencies are available on Starter. Full RTL support for Arabic and Kurdish. No paywall on languages or currencies.
Will my data be safe on the free plan?
Yes. Free and paid users get the same infrastructure: data in Supabase (PostgreSQL) with row-level security and daily backups, traffic over TLS, your business's data isolated from every other tenant. You can export to CSV/Excel anytime.
When does it make sense to upgrade from Starter?
Three triggers: (1) you've grown past 2 vehicles — upgrade to Office at $29/month for up to 10, (2) you're losing money to deposits-gone-missing or fines you couldn't pass back — those are paid features, or (3) you've opened a second branch — Ultimate at $129/month covers unlimited branches. If none of those apply, stay on Starter.
What if I outgrow the free plan? Will I lose my data?
No. Upgrading is a one-click toggle in settings — same account, same data, same login. You don't migrate anything. If you grow past 2 vehicles, the system prompts you to upgrade in-app to Office ($29/month, up to 10 vehicles) or Ultimate ($129/month, unlimited).
How does CarCEO PRO afford to be free?
The business is funded by Ultimate subscriptions. Hosting a 5-vehicle operator's data costs us pennies a month, and a meaningful percentage of free users eventually upgrade when they grow — or recommend us to bigger operators who do. Bootstrapped, Amsterdam-based, owned by operators.
